OVER 9,000 COMPLETE BIM TRAINING TO BOOST CONSTRUCTION DIGITALISATION - NANTA

SHAH ALAM, Feb 11 (Bernama) -- A total of 9,375 participants have undergone Building Information Modelling (BIM) training through platforms such as the myBIM Centre and the nationwide myBIM Satellite network, supporting the digitalisation of Malaysia’s construction industry.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the figure also included those who completed phased training programmes conducted by the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB).

“Under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) for 2026–2030, the government has allocated more than RM430 billion for national development programmes and projects, including those in the infrastructure and construction sectors.

“Within this plan, modern technologies such as the Industrialised Building System and BIM have been identified as key instruments to enhance productivity, expedite project completion and reduce wastage and construction costs,” he said at the launch of the Persatuan Kontraktor Bumiputera Malaysia (PKBM) myBIM Satellite Centre here today.

Nanta described BIM as a significant integrated approach that enables more systematic planning, coordination and project management throughout the project life cycle.

He said BIM allows technical issues to be identified early, helping to minimise delays, cost overruns and rework at construction sites, while improving construction quality and delivery efficiency.

“Under the 13MP, the construction sector is projected to be one of the drivers of national economic growth, with an average annual growth target of about five per cent over the plan period.

“This target can only be achieved if the industry adopts more efficient, integrated and technology-driven work practices,” he said.

Recognising the challenges faced by local contractors, particularly small and medium-sized firms, in adapting to technological change, Nanta said capacity building must be implemented progressively, in a structured and inclusive manner.

He added that CIDB Malaysia must continue to play its role as the leading agency in shaping policies, developing training modules and promoting the adoption of technology and best practices within the industry

These efforts require sustained collaboration between the government, implementing agencies, training institutions and industry players, while appropriate training platforms and learning facilities are essential to complement the policies and initiatives outlined by the government

“Strategic cooperation between CIDB, industry players and relevant associations should be strengthened to ensure the transformation of the construction industry is carried out comprehensively, systematically and with high impact,” he added.
