JOHOR BAHRU, Feb 16 (Bernama) -- The National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) Smart Services, which provide collective internet access to communities, particularly in rural areas, recorded 1.4 million participations nationwide as of December last year.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), in a statement, said the figure reflects the positive response and the continued need among communities for digital skills and socio-economic development.

“NADI Smart Services include, among others, e-Sports, DiLea Tuition and NADI Skilled Gadget Repair,” the statement said in conjunction with the Community Engagement Day (HBK) organised by MCMC in collaboration with NADI Taman Desa Belantik here today.

The HBK programme was attended by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah, MCMC State Affairs Sector chief Bukhari Yahya and Bernama Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.

Among NADI’s objectives is to empower communities through programmes covering four main focus areas, namely entrepreneurship, lifelong e-learning, self-wellbeing and maturity in internet usage.

MCMC also said that throughout 2025, a total of 9,666 Safe Internet Campaign programmes were implemented nationwide, underscoring the government’s commitment to enhancing awareness of safe and responsible digital usage, particularly among children.

The organisation of HBK, according to MCMC, reflects NADI’s role as a one-stop community centre that serves as a platform to empower communities through digital skills development, entrepreneurship and the dissemination of government initiatives at the grassroots level.

The programme also featured exhibitions and services by other agencies, including an eKasih counter by the Prime Minister’s Department Implementation Coordination Unit and an Electrical Safety Campaign by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).

Earlier, Fahmi, who is on a one-day working visit to Johor, took the opportunity to engage with children and reminded them to manage their time wisely when using gadgets, in addition to mingling with local residents.
