OSAKA, Feb 16 (Bernama-Kyodo) -- A Japanese railway operator on Monday revealed the exterior of its new sightseeing train, set to begin running from April 24 to Mountain Koya, a UNESCO world heritage site in Wakayama Prefecture, bedecked in dark red with gold ornamentation, Kyodo News reported.

The four-carriage Gran Tenku, successor of the current Tenku train, will be able to carry 70 passengers on an approximately 90-minute journey between Namba Station in Osaka and Gokurakubashi Station in Koya, Wakayama, the final stop on the Koya Line, according to Nankai Electric Railway Co.

The new train, with a gold emblem shaped like a compass at the front with the letters K and W to denote Mt. Koya -- a Buddhist pilgrimage site and tourist spot -- and Wakayama, was unveiled to media at a factory in Kawachinagano, Osaka Prefecture.

The first carriage will have reclining seats, while seats in the second will be arranged for passengers to better enjoy the scenery.

The company plans on incorporating a lounge area and sofa seats for dining in the third and fourth carriages, respectively.

“We hope more people will learn about how great this route is through the carriages,” an official from the company said.
