KOTA BHARU, Feb 16 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIK) has set the zakat fitrah rate for this year at RM10.
Its president, Tengku Tan Sri Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz, said that however, any individual who wishes to make a payment of RM22 based on the price of the rice commonly consumed is encouraged to do so.
He said that the amount of the zakat fitrah and zakat harta determinations had received the consent of the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V, as the Head of Islam in the state, as provided under Article 6 (1) of the Constitution of the Kelantan state government.
"The nisab rate for wealth zakat is RM37,401 for assets held between Ramadan 1447H and Ramadan 1448H," he said in a statement today.
Tengku Mohamad Rizam said that zakat payments can be made through the Baitulmal counter services at city and district mosques or through the MAIK portal at zakat.e-maik.my.
"MAIK hopes for cooperation from all parties to take note of this decree and together enliven Ramadan 1447H with righteous deeds and the responsibility of paying zakat as mandated," he said.
