JOHOR BAHRU, Feb 17 (Bernama) -- The Johor Immigration Department (JIM) detained 41 illegal immigrants for various offences during Op Sapu at several premises around Skudai here, yesterday.

Johor Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the 11 pm operation focused on inspections at business premises, areas frequented by foreign nationals and high-risk locations.

He said the operation involved 30 enforcement officers and personnel from the Johor JIM branch.

“The raid followed intelligence gathering and continuous monitoring in the area. During the raid, the illegal immigrants were found resting on the upper floor of the business premises, which had been converted into living quarters. Some attempted to evade inspection by fleeing, while others hid inside rooms.

“A total of 41 illegals were detained in the operation, comprising 11 Indonesians (7 men, 4 women) and 30 Myanmar nationals (19 men, 11 women) aged between 16 and 49,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Rusdi said the offences committed under the Immigration Act 1959/63 include not possessing valid travel documents and overstaying.

Those detained have been placed at the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot here for further investigation.
