SUNGAI BULOH, Feb 25 (Bernama) -- The government will not compromise on any abuse of power or misconduct involving officers and personnel of the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) stationed at the country’s entry points, the Home Ministry (KDN) stressed.
KDN deputy secretary-general (Security) Datuk Abdul Halim Abdul Rahman said legal or disciplinary action will be taken against any officer found to have undermined the integrity of the service.
“Those who abuse their authority or compromise integrity will be subject to action under the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993 (Amendment 2002),” he said at the ‘Ihya Ramadan’ and breaking of fast programme with AKPS personnel here today.
He said AKPS officers and personnel stationed at airports, land entry points and ports bear a major responsibility in ensuring that only individuals with legitimate purposes and valid travel documents are allowed to enter the country.
“Your role goes beyond mere inspection. Duties at the country’s entry points may appear straightforward, but in reality they represent a significant trust in safeguarding national security and sovereignty,” he said.
Abdul Halim stressed that integrity must remain the core principle in the execution of duties to ensure border control is carried out effectively and with credibility.
He also said AKPS was established to manage operations at gazetted entry points by consolidating the roles of more than 20 agencies that previously operated separately, including the Immigration Department and the Customs Department.
“Previously, more than 20 agencies operated independently at our borders. Today, we have a stronger and more focused single force to carry out border control functions more effectively,” he said.
Earlier, 200 tahfiz students from six schools around Sungai Buloh, Selangor, were feted at the programme, which was also attended by AKPS deputy director-general (Management) Ismail Mokhtar and AKPS deputy director-general (Policy) Zuraini Othman.
