KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- This year's UMNO party elections, which have been postponed, will be held at a date not later than six months after the 16th General Election (GE16).
UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the decision was made in line with the provisions under Clauses 10.16, 10.16.1 and 10.16.2 of the party's Constitution.
He said the move is to ensure the party's entire machinery at all levels can be fully geared to prepare for the possibility of state elections and GE16, which can be held at any time this year.
Regarding the party's calendar for 2026, Asyraf Wajdi said the party's branches would hold their annual general meetings from April 1 to May 17, while the divisions would hold theirs from June 1 to July 12.
"The 2026 UMNO General Assembly, meanwhile, will be held for five days from Aug 12-16,” he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, Asyraf Wajdi said that in conjunction with UMNO's 80th anniversary this year, the party would hold the Bumiputera Education Congress on May 1.
He said this would be followed by the UMNO Convention, scheduled to be held at Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Centre, on May 2.
