KOTA KINABALU, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- The number of flood victims in Sabah increased to 4,650 as of 8 pm today, from 4,458 at 4 pm, the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said.

In a statement, the secretariat said the victims from 1,613 families were currently being sheltered at 24 relief centres (PPS) across five districts.

Based on the latest data, a significant increase was recorded in Beaufort, where the number of victims rose to 1,423 people (492 families), compared with 1,231 earlier in the afternoon.

Following the increase in flood victims, two new PPS at Dewan Residensi PR1MA Woodford Estate and Masjid Darul Ikhlas were opened, bringing the total number of operational centres in Beaufort to four, in addition to the Selagon permanent relief centre.

Tenom remained the worst-affected district, with 2,406 victims (795 families), unchanged since the afternoon, all housed in 13 PPS.

The number of flood victims in three other districts remained the same, with Sipitang recording 421 people from 176 families, Membakut 321 (125 families), and Sook 79 (25 families).
