NUR RAMADAN 2026: 1,500 UNDERPRIVILEGED RECIPIENTS IN LABUAN RECEIVE CASH AID

LABUAN, Feb 28 (Bernama) -- A total of 1,500 recipients comprising asnaf (tithe beneficiaries) and the poor on this duty-free island, received a cash contribution of RM200 each through the Federal Territories Nur Ramadan Programme 2026, held at Masjid Jamek Layang-Layangan today.

The programme, organised by the Federal Territories Department (JWP) in collaboration with the Labuan Corporation and the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), aims to enliven the month of Ramadan while reaching out to the needy on the island.

Out of the total number of recipients, 300 individuals received their contributions directly during the ceremony, while the remainder will have the funds channeled into their respective accounts through zakat allocations under MAIWP.

Additionally, 130 Tahfiz students received cash aid through a Special Federal Territory Allocation provided by JWP. During the same event, JWP also presented special contributions of RM5,000 each to Masjid Jamek Layang-Layangan, Madrasah Tahfiz Al-Quran Sri Merinding, and Maahad Tahfiz Addiin Wa Tharbiyatul Athfal to support spiritual programmes and the welfare of congregants and students.

The programme featured the presentation of donations, a mass breaking fast session, congregational Maghrib, Isyak, and Tarawih prayers, as well as a Ramadan tazkirah (religious talk).

The event also included a prize-giving ceremony for the traditional lamp lighting competition held in conjunction with the 2026 Federal Territory Day Celebration competition took place at the village level from February 22 to 27 as an effort to preserve local cultural heritage.

The implementation of the Federal Territories Nur Ramadan Programme 2026 reflects the government's ongoing commitment to strengthening strategic cooperation with religious agencies and local communities. It also puts the practice of direct charity into action, fostering a spirit of togetherness among the communities in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.
