PKR CONDEMNS US, ISRAEL MILITARY ACTION AGAINST IRAN, URGES IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 (Bernama) -- The PKR International Affairs Bureau has unequivocally condemned the military aggression by the United States (US) and Israel against Iran, describing it as a serious violation of international law that threatens regional and global stability.

Its chairman, Dr Maszlee Malik, in a statement today, said the action constituted an unprovoked act of war that contravened the United Nations (UN) Charter, particularly Article 2(4), which prohibits the use of force against the territorial integrity of any state.

“This dangerous escalation threatens regional and global stability, particularly in an already volatile West Asia. The world needs peace, not more wars. We vehemently reject foreign military intervention and the subjugation of a nation's right to self-determination.

“PKR stands in solidarity with the people of Iran, who alone have the right to determine their own destiny, free from external coercion and violence,” he added.

Maszlee said the bureau therefore called for the immediate cessation of all hostile military actions against the Islamic Republic, full respect for Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in line with the UN Charter, and decisive action by the UN Security Council to halt the aggression and uphold international peace.

He also urged the US and Israel to cease hostilities and pursue diplomacy and peaceful coexistence.

Earlier, the US and Israel launched attacks with the latter calling the move a ‘pre-emptive strike against its arch-enemy to eliminate threats.’

The strikes come after the US massively increased its military build-up in the region in order to pressure Tehran to scale down its nuclear programme, and following a brutal crackdown in Iran on widespread protests.
