DUNGUN, March 4 (Bernama) -- The Central Terengganu Development Authority (KETENGAH) has allocated RM1 million for its charitable Ikatan Kasih MADANI Programme in conjunction with Ramadan this year.

KETENGAH chairman Datuk Rozi Mamat said the allocation would benefit 3,100 recipients, including asnaf groups, orphans, bedridden patients and people with disabilities.

Each recipient will receive RM200, amounting to RM640,000 in total.

Eight madrasahs and tahfiz institutions will receive Ihsanul Qura contribution of RM2,000 each, totalling RM16,000, while a further RM35,000 has been allocated under the Ihya Ramadan initiative for 70 suraus in the KETENGAH region, with RM500 provided to each.

“This programme not only benefits the recipients but also reflects the spirit of togetherness and social responsibility that underpins Malaysia MADANI,” he said at the launch of the programme in Bandar Al Muktafi Billah Shah here.

In addition, Rozi said 754 orphans will receive Hari Raya clothing worth RM200 and “duit raya” of RM100 each, courtesy of Ketengah Holding Sdn Bhd (KHSB), involving a total allocation of RM226,200.

He said the initiative demonstrated that development under KETENGAH goes beyond physical and economic progress, placing emphasis on social wellbeing and human capital.

As an agency under the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, KETENGAH remains committed to empowering rural communities in the region, he said, adding that KETENGAH has received a budget of RM48.355 million this year, including RM5.5 million for six new projects to upgrade and refurbish its premises.

One recipient, Halimah Mohammad, 66, said the assistance was meaningful for her and her 87-year-old husband, Mohd Syaban, who suffers from several chronic illnesses.

“We rely solely on the RM200 a month from the Social Welfare Department. Our six children have families of their own and are unable to help much.

“With this contribution, we can buy food, cover my husband’s travel costs to the hospital and prepare for iftar this Ramadan,” she said.
