KUANTAN, March 4 (Bernama) -- The outcome of disciplinary proceedings conducted by Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) against a student accused of desecrating the Quran is expected to be decided next week.
UMPSA vice-chancellor Prof Dr Yatimah Alias said the decision would be communicated to the Higher Education Ministry (MoHE).
“The disciplinary process is being carried out in accordance with Rule 58 of the Universities and University Colleges (UMPSA) (Student Discipline) Rules 2024, which carries penalties of up to expulsion from the university if the student is found guilty,” she said.
She said this at a press conference after the UMPSA-Media Collaboration programme and breaking of fast event here today.
Yesterday, the student was charged at the Sessions Court here with desecrating the Quran and posting extremely offensive communication on social media last month.
However, S. Vikneswaran, 21, pleaded not guilty to both charges and claimed trial.
