CAIRO, March 6 (Bernama-dpa) -- Etihad Airways said it would resume a limited number of flights from Abu Dhabi to Europe starting on Friday after widespread cancellations due to the ongoing military conflict in the region, reported German Press Agency (dpa).
The Abu Dhabi-based carrier said on its website that destinations would include Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Milan, Paris, Rome and Zurich.
Passengers with existing bookings would be accommodated on these flights as soon as possible.
Tens of thousands of travellers remain stranded after the conflict with Iran escalated last weekend, disrupting air travel across the Middle East.
Many countries in the region temporarily closed their airspace, halting flights through key transit airports.
Flights have since partially resumed. Dubai-based airline Emirates has also operated services to help move stranded passengers.
However, the risk of Iranian attacks in the country and the wider region remains.
Etihad said the decision to restart flights was made in coordination with authorities following a comprehensive security review.
The airline added it would continue to closely monitor the situation and operate flights only if safety requirements could be met.
