KUALA LUMPUR, March 7 (Bernama) -- A timely goal by Muhammad Safawi Rasid in injury time helped Kuala Lumpur (KL) City FC’s 2-1 victory over Melaka FC at Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium here tonight.
The win helped KL City jump to second place from fourth in the Super League with 39 points, while Melaka FC remains second last with 11 points.
KL City managed to go up 1-0 in the first half thanks to Kamal Azizi Mohd Zabri’s goal in the 40th minute, but Melaka was able to equalise late in the second half, through Kwangil Pak in the 86th minute.
The match looked headed for a draw, but Muhammad Safawi Rasid turned hero for the City Boys in the second minute of injury time, securing his team a well-deserved 2-1 victory.
Meanwhile, Kuching City FC won at home at Sarawak State Stadium tonight, beating Borneo rivals Sabah FC 2-0.
Joao Pedro scored the home team’s first goal in the fifth minute, while teammate Petrus Shitembi scored the second in the 26th minute.
In the last match of the night, Negeri Sembilan FC (NSFC) could only manage a draw with Penang FC, with each team scoring three goals each at Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi.
The visitors scored first through Dylan Christopher Charles Wenzel Halls in the 22nd minute, only to see NSFC’s Jovan Motika equalise through a long-range attempt in the 29th minute.
Penang FC’s Tchetche Kipre scored his team’s second goal in the 78th minute, but the lead was cancelled out by NSFC’s Mio Tsuneyasu four minutes later.
The home team then pushed hard and were rewarded with a goal from Joseph Esso in the 88th minute, but as luck would have it, Penang FC was awarded a penalty at the very end of the match, which Stefano Brundo converted masterfully to split points with NSFC.
