JAKARTA, March 8 (Bernama) -- Indonesia aims to complete government core areas (KIPP) serving as administrative centres in its four new autonomous provinces in Papua by 2028, Deputy Home Affairs Minister Ribka Haluk said.

He said the government is speeding up the construction of the administrative centres to support governance and public services in the newly established regions.

“The government has designated the four KIPPs as national strategic projects, with President Prabowo Subianto expected to inaugurate them upon completion,” she said, as reported by ANTARA News Agency.

The four new autonomous provinces - Highland Papua, Central Papua, South Papua and Southwest Papua - were established in 2022  as expansions from Papua and West Papua.

Haluk said the KIPP in South Papua has been operational since Jan 5 this year, while physical construction in Southwest Papua has reached about 90 per cent.

While the development of the Central Papua KIPP, she said began on Dec 29 last year  with progress currently recorded at 3.21 per cent.

For the KIPP project in Highland Papua, Haluk said it has reached the detailed engineering design (DED) stage, which will serve as the primary guide for construction, with a project tender scheduled for June 2026.

She explained that the DED was prepared by the Highland Papua government following a feasibility study and the development of a preliminary design to minimise risks, improve budget efficiency and ensure compliance with established standards.

She added that the Home Affairs Ministry will continue coordinating with the Public Works Ministry to ensure the smooth development of KIPPs across the four new autonomous provinces.
