GLOBAL CONFLICTS REMIND MALAYSIANS NOT TO TAKE PEACE FOR GRANTED

PUTRAJAYA, March 10 (Bernama) -- The current global conflicts serve as a reminder that the peace and stability enjoyed in Malaysia are precious blessings that should not be taken for granted.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the situation reminds all parties of the importance of preserving the spirit of unity, mutual respect and harmonious living.

“As we enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Ramadan in our country, we cannot deny that, at the same time, there are communities in several parts of the world facing conflicts and wars.

“The month of Ramadan also provides us with an opportunity to cultivate a sense of gratitude for the peace and harmony that our country enjoys,” he said during the "Sentuhan Kasih Ramadan” Programme with the Housing and Local Government Minister here today.

He said the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) is actively implementing the Urban Community Economic Empowerment Programme (PEKB) nationwide in collaboration with its strategic partners to help the urban poor generate more sustainable income through targeted entrepreneurship and skills training.

Nga cited the example of a single mother who joined the PEKB programme in 2025, where she learned to bake cakes and promote her products on social media.

“As a result, she managed to increase her monthly income from RM500 to RM4,000. Success stories like this are in line with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI and, at KPKT, the efforts and responsibilities we carry are not only to fulfil our duties, but also to help fellow citizens,” he said.

At the event, Nga and the ministry’s top management also presented Aidilfitri contributions, in cash and aid baskets, to 108 KPKT staff in need.

The initiative, led by the KPKT Welfare and Sports Body (KESKEP) and the National Association of Wives of Civil Servants and Women Civil Servants (PUSPANITA), aims to ease the burden of KPKT staff in preparing for Aidilfitri.

The event also featured a Quran tadabbur and recitation session, as well as the presentation of prizes for the KPKT Ramadan Decoration 1447H to ministry staff who helped enliven the office environment throughout the holy month.
