KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 (Bernama) -- The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) has allocated RM75,000 to help 250 asnaf (eligible zakat recipients) from across the Federal Territories purchase Hari Raya necessities.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said that 100 recipients from the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, 100 from Labuan, and 50 from Putrajaya would receive assistance under the Rahmah MADANI Ramadan MAIWP: Shopping for Asnaf Clothing and Hari Raya Essentials 2026M/1447H programme.

“Alhamdulillah, initiatives like this are greatly needed in efforts to further the development agenda of the ummah, especially for the asnaf group who are recipients of MAIWP assistance in the Federal Territories,” he said in his speech at the event here today.

MAIWP chairman Datuk Syed Kamarulzaman Syed Kabeer, MAIWP chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Nizam Yahya, Aeon Big Malaysia Director and Head of Business Administration Takanori Komatsu, as well as 100 recipients from 18 families from the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur were also present at the programme.

Zulkifli also expressed appreciation to all zakat contributors who have made their contributions through the MAIWP Zakat Collection Centre (PPZ).

Each programme recipient received RM300 to purchase Hari Raya clothing and necessities such as festive outfits, shoes, and other items, he added.

Norhayati Malek, 42, a recipient and a single mother of seven children, expressed her gratitude and joy for the assistance provided.

“Initially, my family and I decided not to buy anything for Hari Raya this year because we wanted to save money, as I just lost my husband in mid-February.

“So when MAIWP selected us as recipients, we were very happy, especially the children because they still have the chance to go out and buy Hari Raya clothes. I am very thankful to MAIWP,” she said when met by Bernama.

Meanwhile, Nur Syazila Muhammad, 10, also shared her excitement about celebrating Hari Raya with her family this year.

“I feel happy because I can buy many Hari Raya clothes and new shoes with my family. I also received RM50 duit raya, so I want to save some of it and use some for school expenses,” she said.
