IPOH, March 16 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has stepped up 24-hour inspections at petrol stations along the Perak-Thailand border to curb fuel smuggling.
Perak KPDN director Datuk Kamaluddin Ismail said firm action would be taken against irresponsible individuals if any RON95 petrol smuggling is detected.
“We have also intensified checks at petrol stations across the state, with both uniformed and plainclothes officers monitoring the premises,” he said at a press conference during the 2026 Aidilfitri Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme walkabout here today.
Meanwhile, Kamaluddin said supplies of essentials like cooking oil and sugar are sufficient, based on shop inspections.
KPDN enforcement director-general Datuk Azman Adam reportedly said authorities are tightening enforcement of the RON95 petrol subsidy under the BUDI MADANI RON95 initiative nationwide, using an intelligence-led approach to prevent misuse.
He said the move aims to prevent leaks in the BUDI MADANI RON95 scheme, noting that the West Asia conflict has driven up global oil prices, making Malaysia’s petrol an attractive target for outsiders seeking cheaper fuel.
Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the RON95 subsidy under BUDI95 would remain at RM1.99 per litre despite rising global prices due to the West Asia conflict.
