KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 (Bernama) -- The decision by MIC Central Working Committee (CWC) to remain in Barisan Nasional (BN) has been described as a manifestation of loyalty and political maturity with a long-term perspective.
BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the outcome of the CWC’s meeting yesterday reflects not merely a current political stance, but deep-rooted historical ties dating back to the Perikatan era (1955-1973), which was later strengthened under BN since 1974.
“Over this long period, the coalition has weathered numerous challenges, from racial tensions and political pressures to shifts in the national landscape, yet it has endured because it is built on trust, loyalty and shared responsibility,” he said in a statement.
Zambry said that MIC’s decision to stay in BN is also grounded in strong and rational considerations, including the need for stability and continuity, the strength of multiracial cooperation, the capacity for renewal, and a rejection of divisive politics.
He noted that amid an increasingly fragmented and uncertain political climate, the public requires a stable and experienced platform, adding that BN has demonstrated its ability to govern in an inclusive and pragmatic manner, maintaining its relevance.
“In Malaysia’s plural society, BN is more than a political coalition. It is a model of inter-ethnic cooperation that has stood the test of time. This strength remains vital in preserving social harmony,” he said.
Zambry also stressed that despite facing various challenges, BN is not static but is undergoing restructuring, strengthening its organisation and renewing its approach to better respond to current public expectations.
“In a climate where there are efforts to fracture existing unity, this decision sends a clear signal that the principles of togetherness and solidarity cannot be sacrificed for short-term interests,” he said.
Zambry said efforts to consolidate BN will continue, noting that as long as unity is upheld with sincerity, any attempts to weaken or divide the coalition can be addressed with resilience and internal strength.
“Ultimately, this decision is not just about today, but about the future, that politics grounded in unity, moderation and responsibility still has an important role in building a more stable and prosperous Malaysia,” he added.
