KLANG, 1 April (Bernama) -- A man believed to have been driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, resulting in the death of a motorcyclist on Jalan Raya Barat, was brought to the Klang Court today to face charges.
The suspect, in his 20s, arrived at about 8.50 am under police escort.
He was previously remanded for four days starting Monday, with investigations conducted under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
On Sunday (March 29), South Klang police chief ACP Lim Jit Huey said a motorcyclist was killed after being struck by a car allegedly driven by a man under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
The incident, which occurred at about 11.40 am, resulted in the victim, a man in his 30s, being thrown onto another vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations found that the Honda City driven by the suspect was travelling towards Bandar Klang at high speed in a dangerous manner. The driver is believed to have overtaken several vehicles before veering into the opposite lane and colliding with the victim’s motorcycle.
The victim was later identified as Amirul Hafiz Omar, 33.
A video of the incident, which circulated widely on social media, showed a car speeding, crossing a double line, and colliding with a motorcycle, leading to the fatal crash.
Meanwhile, the victim’s wife, Nor Nadia Abdul Majid, 32, was also present at the court proceedings.
