MELAKA, Oct 3 (Bernama) -- Tudor Pro Cycling Team rider Arvid de Kleijn secured his second stage victory in the 2024 Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) after dominating the fifth stage from Kuala Lumpur to Melaka, covering a distance of 167.3 kilometres (km), today.
The Dutch cyclist, also known as the Little Gorilla, crossed the finish line first with a time of 3 hours 35 minutes 30 seconds to add to his stage four win yesterday
JCL Team UKYO rider Matteo Malucelli and Astana Qazaqstan Team rider Gleb Syritsa finished second and third, respectively.
“It was perfect a result, I would say. Perfect lead-out of my team; at just before 200 metres I felt them (other riders) coming, so I just needed to go.
“I think Malucelli came kind of close. He was behind my bike wheel, tried to jump me but it didn’t happen,” he said.
De Kleijn, a sprint specialist, also won stages one and six in the 2023 edition.
Meanwhile, the four key jerseys did not change hands, with DSM-Firmenich PostNL rider Max Poole holding the green jersey (overall leader), Manabu Ishibashi of JCL Team UKYO wearing the white jersey (best Asian rider), followed by his teammate Malucelli in the orange jersey (Sprint King).
The polka dot jersey (King of the Mountains) is still held by Burgos-BH rider Mario Aparicio Munoz.
Tomorrow, the sixth stage will take place from Batu Pahat to Kulai, covering a distance of 123.4km, with sprint zones in Senggarang, Rengit and Bukit Batu.
