PUTRAJAYA, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- Rising national swimmer Muhammad Dhuha Zulfikry received the most prize money among Federal Territories athletes amounting to RM41,000 after showing excellent performance at the Sarawak 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in August.
It was after the 16-year-old athlete excelled in Sarawak when he bagged six gold medals, two silver medals and also broke four SUKMA records and won the title of Best Male Athlete of the Federal Territory.
Muhammad Dhuha said the reward will be an additional tonic for him to continue to perform well especially at the Thailand SEA Games next year.
"I feel very proud of my achievements and I am happy for being the athlete who received the most incentives in Federal Territories and I hope that in the coming SUKMA I will be able to maintain this kind of success.
"Regarding the amount of reward I got, I don't think about it anymore and will save it first," he said at the Federal Territories Contingent Victory Incentive Presentation Ceremony at Dewan Seri Siantan, Putrajaya Corporation, here today.
At the ceremony, the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Dr Zaliha Mustafa presented cash rewards of RM1.4 million to 431 athletes as incentive for SUKMA's victory in Sarawak.
Swimming received the biggest incentive when it earned RM200,100 after successfully winning 16 gold, eight silver and seven bronze medals followed by gymrama which won RM90,000 after sweeping all seven gold medals.
The Federal Territories contingent won 75 gold, 65 silver and 73 bronze behind the hosts who won 76 gold, 55 silver and 70 bronze.
The success improved the achievement of SUKMA 2022 when it was placed third with a collection of 55 gold, 68 silver and 64 bronze.
The remuneration is based on an incentive of RM6,000 for gold winners, RM2,500 for silver and RM1,300 for bronze for the individual category.
