SEA GAMES: MNCF VOWS TO RETAIN ROAD RACE GOLD

25/10/2024 03:12 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) is determined to win the men’s mass start gold medal for the third consecutive time at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.

MNCF president Datuk Amarjit Singh said the federation has devised the best strategy to ensure the national road race squad maintain their golden touch and uphold the pride of Malaysian cycling.

Amarjit, who is also the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC) vice-president, said MNCF will do everything necessary to maintain Malaysia's dominance in the event.

"However, it won’t be an easy task as Thailand also has a strong lineup of riders. Additionally, the national squad, led by Yusuf Nasir, will face challenges if they do not receive financial support, including from the Youth and Sports Ministry.

“If the formula used in Hanoi and Siam Reap - leveraging the strength of professional teams, particularly the Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) - is applied in Thailand, I will work hard to ensure its success,” he said in a statement today.

After a disappointing performance at the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines, the national cycling squad redeemed themselves in the 2021 edition in Hanoi when Muhammad Nur Aiman Zariff won the gold medal in the event.

Nur Amirull Fakhruddin Mazuki retained the gold for Malaysia in the last edition in Siam Reap, Cambodia.
