CO-HOSTING SEA GAMES 2027 AN INVESTMENT FOR SARAWAK - ABANG JOHARI

KUCHING, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak government views its role as co-host for the SEA Games in 2027 as an investment, which could elevate the state’s profile across Southeast Asia.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said he expected that the state would have its own airline by the time the regional multi-sport event is held, and this would be an opportunity for the ASEAN nations to know more about Sarawak.

“For me, this (co-hosting SEA Games 2027) is another form of investment, as we all know it would involve several countries and we want to share that our development extends beyond Sarawak’s borders, and even beyond Malaysia,” he said.

Speaking at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2024 Appreciation Night, here, last night, he urged Sarawakians to see the 2027 SEA Games as a platform to showcase their capabilities in hosting a successful event.

“Let them (Southeast Asian neighbours) see what we can achieve. When given a task, we will execute it with professionalism and success - that is our motto,” he said.

At the SUKMA 2024 closing ceremony on Aug 24, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the government’s decision to designate Sarawak as a co-host for the SEA Games.

He said this followed Sarawak’s exceptional organisation of the nation’s biennial multi-sport event, which he described as among the best in recent history.
