MALAYSIAN NATIONAL CYCLING FEDERATION AIMS TO CHANGE SPONSORS' PERCEPTION - AMARJIT

31/10/2024 04:25 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National  Cycling Federation (MNCF) aims to focus on convincing sponsors to ensure the continued excellence in the sport, especially for the national road cycling squad.

Its president Datuk Amarjit Singh said that the road cycling squad deserved to be supported after several successes, including winning the gold medal at the 2023 South East Asian (SEA) Games, but admitted that it was a hard task to do so.

“I am given to understand that the Thai road cycling squad receives a lot of sponsorship from private companies there. Why doesn’t this happen in Malaysia?

“So, at the first exco meeting I chaired, we discussed the matter critically. We want to change the perception that the federation is one with problems,” he said in a statement today, and expressed hope that there were sponsors willing to come forward to assist the national road cycling squad in their preparation for the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.

Amarjit, who is also Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC) vice-president and the ASEAN Cycling Federation (ACF) secretary-general, said that the road cycling squad is currently training in Malaysia and does not receive as much financial aid as the national track cycling squad.

Meanwhile, the MNCF carried out some changes to its bureaus during the meeting, with Amarjit maintaining his position as Track and Disciplinary Committee chairman, while deputy president, Mazlan Md Jail will head the Anti-Doping Committee.

Vice president Norazman Datuk Abu Samah will chair the Technical and Road Committee while former Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin will chair the Financial, Cycling for All and Amendments as well as Special Tasks Committees.
