KUALA NERUS, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- Terengganu FC (TFC) import midfielder Marin Pilj has officially left the team today.
This was announced by Terengganu Football Club Sdn Bhd (TFCSB) chief executive officer Mohd Sabri Abas on the club's official Facebook page, Terengganu FC.
Mohd Sabri said his team had reached an agreement with the Croatian-born player to terminate his contract early, in the middle of the 2024/2025 season.
"The player had sent an application for the termination of the contract by mutual consent on the grounds that he is not able to focus due to personal problems.
"Earlier, he was present with the coaching staff from Croatia. However, after the coaching staff also ended their contracts early, Pilj was unable to adapt well in the Malaysia League," he said in a statement.
Mohd Sabri said his team had tried to negotiate and provide space to enable the player to continue serving in Terengganu until the end of the season but Pilj was unable to provide the commitment that the club had hoped for.
"Despite a heavy heart, TFCSB has decided to release Marin Pilj because it would have a negative impact on the club's journey and the team's image. This is the first time he has travelled from Europe to an Asian country. The absence of his compatriots made him unable to survive and chose to return to his country," he said.
He said TFCSB had previously released another imported defender, Matthew Steenvorden, who was struggling with injury problems.
