IPOH, Dec 10 (Bernama) -- Eight teams are set to compete in the 2024 Malaysia-China Under-12 (U-12) Invitational Grassroots Football Tournament, which will take place at the Perak Chinese Recreation Club (PCRC) field here on Dec 21 and 22.
Perak FC Technical Director Raja Azlan Shah Raja So’ib said the tournament, organised by Perak FC in collaboration with PCRC, will feature two categories—‘Cup’ and ‘Plate’—with the teams divided into two groups.
“The eight participating teams include six local teams from Perak and two teams specially flown in from China.
“The top two teams from each group will advance to the Cup semi-finals, while the bottom two teams from each group will compete in the Plate category,” he said.
He was speaking at a press conference at the State Secretary Corporation (SSI) Tower here today, which was also attended by PCRC President Chan See Onn.
Earlier, the eight participating teams were revealed as Perak FC Academy, Ipoh Friday Club, ATM Gladiator, PCRC A, PCRC B, D.I.A Kickers, Hainan Zhonghai FC (China), and Hainan Deneng FC (China).
Raja Azlan said the tournament not only coincides with the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations but also helps promote Visit Perak Year 2024.
Meanwhile, Chan See Onn said the event has the potential to discover young talents who could be groomed as future players at the state or national level.
