PETALING JAYA, Dec 17 (Bernama) -- Naturalised striker Sergio Aguero is determined to ensure a win for Harimau Malaya over neighbours Singapore in the 2024 ASEAN Cup Group A match at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Friday.
He said the clash between the two teams would certainly feature fierce competition as both have an important mission to accomplish in order to secure a berth in the semi-finals.
“Its a big game for us because our qualification will depend on the result...We are ready and of course we want to win. Playing againts Singapore, it will be tough game, we have watch the way they played good..but playing at home we have to take it as an advantage,” he said during the Harimau Malaya squad training session at Wisma Persatuan Bolasepak Malaysia (FAM), Kelana Jaya, here today.
The Sri Pahang FC player however, firmly believes Harimau Malaya are capable of achieving a positive result against the Lions (Singapore) if the squad can emulate the tactical style of play displayed during the match against Thailand in the 0-1 loss in Bangkok on Dec 14.
“We have to play our game and if we play like what we played againts Thailand we have a big chance go through to the semi-final,” he said.
Thailand currently lead Group A with six points, the same as second placed Singapore, but has a better goal difference while Malaysia are third with four points and must register a win to advance since only the top two teams qualify for the semi-finals.
