KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 11 (Bernama) -- The Harimau Malaya squad are likely to be rejuvenated with several new faces when the 2027 Asian Cup Qualifying football campaign begins this March.

This follows the sharing of the Johor Regent Tunku Mahkota Ismail in Facebook that six to seven heritage players have been identified to represent Malaysia.

“It is hoped that the Malaysian government can expedite the process of obtaining Malaysian passports so that they are eligible to play for Harimau Malaya in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers starting this March.

“It is imperative that the Harimau Malaya squad begin the qualifying campaign with positive results,” he said on his Facebook account today.

Tunku Ismail, who is seen leading the restructuring of the Harimau Malaya squad, also uploaded a photo with the national team's new chief executive officer Robert Friend and the team's head of High Performance and Sports Medicine, Dr Craig Duncan.

For the third round of 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers which will take place from March 25-31 next year, Malaysia have been drawn in Group F with Vietnam, Nepal and Laos.

Only the group winners will qualify for Asia's premier football tournament in Saudi Arabia from Jan 7 to Feb 5, 2027.
