MELAKA, Feb 14 (Bernama) -- The Melaka government today disbursed RM99,775 in incentives to athletes, team managers and coaches who won medals at the 2024 Para Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Sarawak.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said 20 para athletes in swimming were awarded a total of RM35,750, tenpin bowling (RM21,875), athletics (RM21,250), chess (RM6,400), lawn bowls (RM5,500) and powerlifting (RM2,000).
He added that RM7,000 was also allocated for officials, team managers and coaches involved in the biennial games last September.
"It is the government’s commitment to recognise the hard work and fighting spirit displayed by athletes representing Melaka in various competitions.
"We also appreciate the contributions and dedication of coaches and team managers, who also received incentives for their commitment and sacrifices," he told reporters after the incentive presentation ceremony here.
Melaka won seven gold, nine silver and 11 bronze medals to finish 13th out of 15 contingents.
He hoped the incentives would motivate athletes to perform better in future competitions.
He said the state government remains committed to strengthening targeted groups, particularly in developing para sports, through initiatives such as the Perhebat OKU Programme.
