ATC 2025: MUHAMMAD FADHIL AIMS FOR KEIRIN GLORY, INSPIRED BY AZIZULHASNI

20/02/2025 03:57 PM

NILAI, Feb 20 (Bernama) -- The presence of national track cycling star Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang at the National Velodrome here, even just as a spectator, is enough to fire up the Malaysian team ahead of the 2025 Asian Track Cycling Championships (ATC), which kicks off tomorrow, national cyclist Muhammad Fadhil Mohd Zonis said.

After winning gold in the 1km time trial at ATC 2023, Muhammad Fadhil is now setting his sights on making a big impact in the keirin event, eager to prove his worth on the prestigious stage.

“In terms of team spirit, our target is to bring home medals. Over the past few years, we’ve managed to maintain our position on the podium, and we’re aiming to do the same this time.

“Datuk Azizulhasni will likely be here too, and having him around will definitely boost our morale. Personally, I’m focusing on the keirin. This is my chance to compete in the event at the Asian level, and my goal is to reach the final, then we’ll take it from there,” he told Bernama today.

When asked about his biggest rivals, Muhammad Fadhil pointed to Japan’s world-class cyclists, known for their almost flawless technique, consistent speed and well-executed race strategies.

Muhammad Fadhil was forced to withdraw from ATC 2024 in New Delhi due to a viral infection.

Malaysia is aiming for at least three medals at ATC 2025, with national track cycling head coach Harnizam Basri placing high hopes on the men's and women's team sprint events, as well as the women’s keirin through Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri.
