KUALA LUMPUR March 26 (Bernama) -- The National Athletes Welfare Foundation (YAKEB) will engage several national sports icons, including Datuk Lee Chong Wei and Datuk Nicol Ann David, to join their efforts in supporting former national athletes.
YAKEB chairman Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail said that the foundation aims to involve more successful former athletes to share their experiences and inspire its members.
“InsyaAllah, we will try to approach prominent figures such as Chong Wei and Nicol David to work together with YAKEB.
"For example, national para-badminton champion Cheah Liek Hou has contributed by coordinating initiatives to assist YAKEB members," he said.
He spoke to reporters after the presentation of Hari Raya Aidilfitri's contribution from Astro Arena, Dewan Perniagaan Muslim Malaysia and Milo to 50 selected former athletes.
Ahmad Shapawi said the contribution is a token of appreciation to those in need, adding that YAKEB will expand the initiative with the collaboration of more parties in the future.
He said that more than 3,000 former athletes are registered under YAKEB, making the foundation a crucial platform for their welfare.
