KUCHING, April 8 (Bernama) -- Sarawak aims to receive more support and collaboration from global sport bodies to host international sporting events, said state Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
He said the state government is ever ready to organise sports competitions as a commitment to becoming the sports powerhouse in Malaysia.
“We are working to bring in more sports events to Sarawak. We hope to get this kind of support from the International Tennis Federation (ITF), as the state government will always be there to give our fullest support.
“I told Catherine Michie (ITF representative) that we wish to see Sarawak become the sports powerhouse in Malaysia, as we just organised Sukan Malaysia 2024 and we will co-organise SEA Games 2027,” he said.
Abdul Karim made these remarks during the welcoming and fellowship dinner for the 2025 Asia-Oceania Final Qualifying Tournament for the ITF World Junior Tennis Under-14, held here last night.
The tournament is being held from March 31 to April 15, featuring 18 countries battling for spots in the ITF World Junior Tennis Final.
