KUALA LUMPUR, April 11 (Bernama) -- The national ice hockey team are eying the third spot when they compete in the 2025 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship Division IV in Yerevan, Armenia from April 13-20.
Malaysia Ice Hockey Federation deputy president Dr Nurhidayah Datuk Badarudin is confident the team can achieve third placing based on the thorough preparations they have undergone since January.
“Previously, we finished fourth... this time we will try to beat Indonesia, Iran and Kuwait to, hopefully, finish third.
“If we can get on the podium, we will move up to Division III in the next tournament,” she said when contacted by Bernama recently.
She added that Malaysia will be represented by 20 players, with seven of them based overseas, including in Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Malaysia will begin their Division IV campaign against the host on Sunday (April 13), before facing Iran (April 14), Indonesia (April 16), Kuwait (April 17) and Uzbekistan (April 19).
The tournament uses the round-robin format and the team with the highest number of points will be declared champions.
