KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s top women’s squash player, S. Sivasangari, cruised into the second round of the El Gouna International Squash Open 2025 after defeating compatriot Aira Azman in just 17 minutes yesterday.
The world No. 11 dominated the first-round clash at the El Gouna Squash Complex, winning 11-4, 11-5, 11-3.
This marks Sivasangari’s third victory over world No. 30 Aira, having previously beaten her at The Tuanku Muhriz Trophy 2023 and New Zealand Open 2025.
The seventh seed will next face Egypt’s Salma Hany, who overcame Belgium’s Nele Gilis-Coll in her opening round.
Sivasangari defeated Salma in the 2022 edition of the same tournament.
Another national women’s squash player, Rachel Arnold, also advanced to the second round after defeating Egypt’s Zeina Mickawy 11-5, 11-8, 11-13, 10-12, 11-5 in a hard-fought 50-minute match.
Rachel will next face fourth seed Olivia Weaver from the United States for a place in the quarter-finals.
