PLAYERS' COMMITMENT KEY TO WIN OVER KL CITY - PENANG COACH

GEORGE TOWN, April 14 (Bernama) -- Penang FC head coach Wan Rohaimi Wan Ismail said his players' determination and high level of commitment were instrumental in their 1-0 win over KL City FC at City Stadium last night.

Wan Rohaimi hoped the valuable three points earned would serve as a balm for the loyal supporters of the Panthers, who have stood by the team through a challenging season.

“This was a concerted effort from our players because it’s never easy to beat KL City — they are an experienced side and gave us a tough fight throughout the match.

“Although we’re still in the lower zone of the table, two back-to-back wins (previously against Negeri Sembilan FC) give us a new boost and show promising improvements in our performance,” he told a post-match press conference last night.

Wan Rohaimi also hoped the positive momentum would carry through to their final league match against Sri Pahang FC at Stadium Temerloh on April 19.

Reflecting on the season, the 49-year-old coach noted positive development in the team’s performance and direction, which he said were becoming clearer.

Meanwhile, KL City head coach Miroslav Kuljanac was dissatisfied with the disrupted rhythm of play, especially in the final 20 minutes, which he said affected his players’ focus.

“In the last 20 minutes of today’s game, we were not really playing football. There were too many interruptions, too many breaks. Maybe it’s a cultural difference.

“I come from a place where you don’t lie down for five minutes and then suddenly get up like nothing happened. But here, that seems to happen often and I hope with time, things will change,” he said.

KL City will play Kelantan Darul Naim FC in their final league match at home on April 20.
