NUR AMISHA EYES CATEGORY SWITCH IN BID FOR SEA GAMES GOLD

14/04/2025 04:10 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 (Bernama) – National women’s Muay Thai athlete Nur Amisha Azrilrizal is eyeing an opportunity to compete in the 48-kilogrammes (kg) category at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand at the end of this year.

The Perak-born exponent, who previously won a bronze and a silver medal in the 51kg category at her first two SEA Games appearances, said it was now time for her to make a change in pursuit of her long-held dream of winning gold.

“At the 2016 SEA Games in the Philippines, I won bronze, and then a silver at the 2022 edition in Vietnam. This time, if possible, I want the gold – it’s been a long-standing dream.

“The competition won’t be easy as there are many strong contenders in that category, but I want to challenge myself,” she said when contacted by Bernama.

Nur Amisha said, however, that the final decision would be left to the national  association to grant her permission for the switch.

The 23-year-old said she would use the next few months to prepare, including participating in the Asian Muay Thai Championships in Vietnam this June before competing in Bangkok.

The national Muay Thai camp clinched one gold and one silver medal at the previous edition in Vietnam.

The gold medal was won by Ahmad Nor Iman Aliff Rakib in the men’s under-54kg category.
