THREE STAR PLAYERS BOOST FOR MELAKA TITANS IN STL2025

06/05/2025 10:46 AM

MELAKA, May 6 (Bernama) -- Melaka Titans have sounded the warning that they are ready to compete in Division 1 of the Sepak Takraw League (STL) this season by bringing in three star players to strengthen the team.

The three players are Mohammad Syahir Rosdi (tekong), Mohamad Azlan Alias (right wing) and Muhammad Zaim Razali (left wing).

Melaka Sepak Takraw Association (PASTAM) president Datuk Akramuddin Abdul Aziz said the services of the national players were sought to help the state squad return to competing in the elite group in the STL Premier Division.

"The presence of players who are well-known in the national sepak takraw arena is a clear signal that the Melaka Titans are ready to shake things up again in the local league competition.

"We are aware that they have extensive experience and expertise in their respective positions such as Azlan, a creative 'killer', in addition to Syahir, a national tekong who is no stranger, while Zaim, who is always calm on the court," he told reporters after a press conference to introduce Melaka players for 2025 STL in Alai, here last night.

Further commenting, Akramuddin said that the three players had also signed agreements until the end of this year to represent the Melaka Titans in various sepak takraw tournaments such as the Tun Ali Cup and the Khir Johari Gold Cup.

He said that apart from the three players in the squad under the guidance of head coach Khairul Anuar Ibrahim, the Melaka Titans would also pair them with a backup player born in the state who has the potential to be featured in the team.

"We believe that the combination of experienced players and new players can bring success to Melaka in this competition and of course it is a very meaningful gift to the state," he said.

He said that although Melaka Titans spent a lot of money to prepare for this season, it is seen as a worthwhile investment for Melaka sepak takraw in addition to raising the prestige of the sport compared with other popular sports.

"We believe that the presence of these experienced players can also be an asset for PASTAM to produce more new sepak takraw stars from Melaka in the future.

"We will also try to involve them in sepak takraw clinics held at selected schools to encourage the participation of more young players as mentors," he said.
