MALAYSIA MASTERS: NO ROOM FOR COMPLACENCY, SAYS KAI WUN AHEAD OF OPENING TIE

18/05/2025 02:46 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 (Bernama) -- National men’s doubles shuttler Tee Kai Wun is not taking any chances, despite being drawn against lower-ranked opponents in the opening round of the 2025 Malaysia Masters, which kicks off on Tuesday at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil here.

The 25-year-old said he and his partner Man Wei Chong had taken valuable lessons from their early exit at the Thailand Open last week, where they were stunned by unseeded Danish pair William Kryger Boe and Christian Faust Kjaer, losing 21-15, 19-21, 18-21 in the second round.

Kai Wun said world rankings no longer reflect the actual threat posed by opponents in international tournaments, and every match must be approached with caution and focus.

“In Thailand, we failed to capitalise on key points and were punished for it. We won’t let that happen again. The Malaysia Masters is a big opportunity for us to go far,”

“I hope we can deliver our best performance here. Rankings are just numbers now, what matters is maintaining momentum throughout the match,” he told reporters during a training session at Axiata Arena today.

Fifth seeds at the tournament, Wei Chong-Kai Wun will face unseeded Danish duo Andreas Søndergaard and Jesper Toft in the opening round.
