KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 21 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Athletics (MA) is still calculating the target it will set for its athletes competing in the SEA Games 2025 in Thailand next month.
MA President Datuk Karim Ibrahim said they have yet to decide on the number of medals they aim to bring back because they are currently assessing the performance of several national athletes who are still participating in competitions before the biennial games.
"We are also (evaluating) athletes from other countries like Thailand and Vietnam who are capable of giving us competition. We need to take the overall statistics into account before we arrive at a decision (to announce the target).
"We will hold a press conference in the near future to announce (the target) and answer all questions posed by the media," he told reporters during a session where the SEA Games 2025 Chef-de-Mission, Nurul Huda Abdullah, met with national athletics athletes here, today.
A total of 28 male and 19 female athletes will carry the challenge for the national athletics squad in this edition of the SEA Games.
Meanwhile, Nurul Huda said the actual medal target for the entire national contingent at the SEA Games 2025 will be announced at the flag handing-over ceremony scheduled for December 3.
The SEA Games 2025 is scheduled to take place from December 9 to 20, involving three provinces: Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla.
