2025 SEA GAMES: MALAYAN TIGRESS FAIL TO ADVANCE TO SEMI-FINALS

BANGKOK, Dec 8 (Bernama) -- The national women’s football team have been eliminated from the 2025 South East Asian (SEA) Games after losing to Myanmar 0-3 in their Group B match at Thai National Sports University in Chonburi today.

Myanmar carved out a comfortable 2-0 lead before halftime, with San Thaw Thaw scoring in the 26th minute and May Htet Lu in the 35th minute.

The national team tried to mount a comeback in the second half, but all hope was lost when they were down to ten players after Adrienna Zamzaihiri was shown the red card in the 60th minute and Myanmar capitalised on the advantage to slot in their third goal through Theingi Tun five minutes later.

National women’s football team head coach Joel Cornelli did express satisfaction with the fighting spirit shown by his players against one of the notable teams in the region and was confident the current squad could achieve better results in the next Games with adequate assistance and support.

“We have more than two years to prepare this team for the next SEA Games. I am confident that with more time to work, this team can become much better than it is now.

“I repeat, with more work and stronger support from the country, especially in terms of funding for women’s football, I am sure we can build a more competitive team when we have improved working conditions,” he said after the match.

Malaysia will wrap up their campaign with their last match against the Philippines after two consecutive losses, the first being a 0-7 drubbing by defending champions Veitnam.
