KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 20 (Bernama) -- Netball teams from Bernama finished second and third in the media netball competition held in conjunction with the National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2025 Sports Carnival today, while first place was won by the team from Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM).
The champions took home RM3,000, a trophy and medals; the runners-up received RM2,000 and medals; while the third- and fourth-placed teams received RM1,000 and RM500 respectively, along with medals.
A total of five teams took part in the netball competition held at IWK Eco Park, Pantai Dalam, comprising two teams from Bernama and one each from RTM, Sinar Harian and the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS).
Also present at the carnival were Bernama Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, Acting Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Bernama News Service Mohd Shukri Ishak and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Bernama Economic News Service Azlina Aziz.
Meanwhile, in the football competition involving 12 teams, Media Perak emerged champions, followed by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) in second place, FINAS third and Bernama (B team) fourth.
The football champions took home RM3,000, medals and a trophy; the runners-up RM2,000 and medals; third place RM1,000 and medals; while the fourth-placed team received RM800 and a trophy.
A total of 12 teams took part in the football competition, comprising two Bernama teams, The Sun, Media Prima, FINAS, the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM), DBP, Astro Awani, RTM, Media Elite Kedah, Media Perak and the HAWANA media team.
RTM netball team captain Aireen Rosli said the championship was particularly meaningful for her team as it marked their debut participation in the carnival.
“The organisation of this sports carnival is interesting as it provides an opportunity for members of the media to spend time engaging in sports while strengthening ties and interacting with media colleagues from various agencies.”
Meanwhile, Media Perak football team manager Razif Rosli said his side, which finished second last year, returned this year with a mission to emerge champions, adding that the carnival helped strengthen bonds among members.
“This year, we came again with a mission to emerge champions and Alhamdulillah, that aspiration was achieved today,” said Razif, who is also a freelance journalist with Bernama’s Perak Bureau.
The programme organised by Bernama in conjunction with HAWANA 2025 began with a bowling competition on Dec 14 at Wangsa Bowl, One Utama, followed by the football and netball events today, with traditional games to continue tomorrow at the same venue.
