KOTA BHARU, Jan 7 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan sepak takraw squad is using the 2026 Penang Governor’s Cup Sepak Takraw Championship as an early preparation platform ahead of this season's Sepak Takraw League (STL) competition.
Kelantan Sepak Takraw assistant manager, Norhisyam Mokhtar said the team has been strengthened with three national players, namely Hairul Hazizi, Khairul Zaman and Norfaizzul Abdul Razak, to increase the team's level of preparedness in the tournament which began yesterday until this Sunday.
He said that apart from the presence of the national players, the team is also lining up five other players to ensure compatibility and stability of the game throughout the tournament.
"The team's preparation is currently at 90 per cent under the guidance of experienced head coach and former national player, Saufi Salleh," he told Bernama recently.
Norhisyam said the tournament provides the team with an opportunity to test player combinations and game tactics before facing the STL competition.
"Every match in this tournament is important to evaluate the players' performance and improve their weaknesses," he said.
He said Kelantan is targeting to reach the final in Penang as a positive indication of the team's level of preparation ahead of this season's STL.
