SELANGOR FC, TERENGGANU FC SEAL QUARTER-FINAL BERTHS IN MALAYSIA CUP

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- Selangor FC lived up to expectations to book a quarter-final berth in the 2026 Malaysia Cup with a 5-1 aggregate after thrashing Kelantan The Real Warriors 3-0 tonight.

Selangor had also defeated Kelantan 2-1 in the first leg in Kota Bharu, Kelantan on Monday.

In the match at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium (MBPJ), Selangor started aggressively, pressing the visitors’ defence before opening the scoring through Chrigor Flores Moraes, who finished off a pass from Ahmad Zikri Khalili in the 19th minute.

The goal clearly boosted the confidence of Kim Pan Gon’s charges, who continued to launch wave after wave of attacks in search of more goals.

Selangor striker Muhammad Faisal Abdul Halim put the Red Giants up 2-0 at the end of the first half with a simple finish.

The hosts did not waste time after the break, extending their advantage when Moraes calmly slotted the ball into the net again in the 66th minute to make it 3-0.

With the win, Selangor are set to face the winners of the match between Imigresen FC and Negeri Sembilan FC (NSFC) in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, action at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium (SSMZA) tonight saw Terengganu FC (TFC) secure a quarter-final spot after eliminating UM-Damansara United 7-0 on aggregate following a 5-0 victory, courtesy of a hat-trick by Engku Muhammad Nur Shakir Engku Yacob and a brace from Raianderson da Costa Morais, better known as Careca.

The result means Tengku Hazman Raja Hassan’s men will take on either Kuala Lumpur City FC or Perak FA in the quarter-finals.
