AHMAD ZAHID HAILS JIN WEI'S NEVER-SAY-DIE ATTITUDE AFTER SINGAPORE TRIUMPH

01/03/2026 11:36 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, March 1 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has congratulated national women's singles shuttler Goh Jin Wei for ending an eight-year title drought by winning the Singapore International Challenge crown today.

He said the victory was not only meaningful for the shuttler but for all Malaysians who have been following the journey of an athlete who doesn't know the meaning of defeat.

"Her rise from injuries and various setbacks proved that hard work, discipline and confidence can overcome all obstacles.

"May this success be the turning point to more outstanding achievements. Malaysia is proud of you,” he posted on Facebook tonight.

The third seed lived up to expectations as she took 30 minutes to beat unseeded Indonesian Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi 21-11, 21-11 at the Singapore Badminton Hall East Coast @ Expo.

This is the world number 55's first Badminton World Federation (BWF) title since capturing the Orleans International crown in France in 2016.

The 26-year-old Jin Wei had previously also won the women’s singles gold at the 2017 SEA Games here, the gold medal at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires and two World Junior Championships titles in 2015 and 2018.
