Cambodia and China signed an agreement in Beijing to strengthen their cooperation in parliamentary and bilateral areas — largely focusing on legislation, oversight, governance and digital sectors, and exchanges of female and young parliamentarians. Both nations want to deepen their traditional relations under the agreement.

 

2.JUDO ATHLETES WIN FIVE MEDALS IN THAILAND - - AGENCE KAMPUCHEA PRESS

Cambodian judo athletes won five medals — two gold, one silver, and two bronze — at the Thailand International Judo Championships 2024 in Chonburi held from 21 to 22 September. The competition included three categories — cadet, senior and Kata.

 

 

LAOS

 

1. ASEAN OFFICIALS PREPARE FOR 42ND ENERGY MEET --  VIENTIANE NEWS

Senior ASEAN energy officials and their Lao counterparts reviewed preparations for the ASEAN Energy Ministers’ Meeting in Vientiane scheduled to take place between 26-27 September.  Officials are preparing a summary report of all the activities under the ASEAN Plan of Action.

 

2.ASEAN PLANS TO IMPROVE AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND FTA -- VIENTIANE NEWS

ASEAN members and the business community are discussing upgrading the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Australia and New Zealand by removing trade barriers in these two markets. ASEAN-Australia trade was US$94.4 billion while ASEAN-New Zealand trade reached US$12.7 billion in 2023.

 

 

VIETNAM

 

1.      RISING CAR OWNERSHIP IN VIETNAM - VN EXPRESS The Ministry of Industry and Trade said car ownership tripled in 13 years to 63 vehicles per 1,000 per person last year. Total number of registered automobiles was 6.31 million by the end of last year. Vietnam remains one of the largest auto markets in the region along with Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia.

 

  1. MALAYSIA AIRLINES CONNECTS DA NANG CITY — VIETNAM NEWS Malaysia Airlines launched its inaugural flight to Da Nang City on Tuesday, operating seven weekly flights. The new connection between Malaysia and Vietnam is expected to boost tourism and Malaysia is ranked in the top 10 countries of international visitors to Dan Nang.

 

 

THAILAND

 

1. NESDC URGES OCA TALKS WITH CAMBODIA AS MIDDLE EASTERN CONFLICTS RISE -- THE NATION

The National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) has advised the government to quickly discuss the overlapping claims area (OCA) with Cambodia to prepare for rising fuel prices due to conflicts in the Middle East that could expand into full-scale wars.

 

2. PHEU THAI 'FLEXIBLE' ON POLICY -- BANGKOK POST

Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai said the Pheu Thai Party will back off from its charter amendment proposal involving ethical standards for political officeholders if coalition parties disagree with it.

2.BANYUWANGI TEACHER ARRESTED FOR HACKING NATIONAL CIVIL SERVICE AGENCY WEBSITE -- JAKARTA GLOBE

A contract teacher from Banyuwangi, identified as Barik Abdul Ghofur, 25, has been arrested for hacking into the National Civil Service Agency (BKN) website and selling the stolen data on the dark web, allegedly earning US$8,000 (approximately IDR121 million).
