ERDOĞAN CRITICISES UN SECURITY COUNCIL FOR FAILING TO STOP WAR IN GAZA, CALLS SITUATION ‘GENOCIDE'

ISTANBUL, Sept 25 (Bernama-dpa) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has criticised the UN Security Council for failing to prevent what he called a “genocide” in the besieged Gaza Strip, reported German news agency dpa.

"What are you waiting for to prevent the genocide in Gaza and to say stop to this cruelty, this barbarism?," Erdoğan told the General Debate at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.

The Turkish president once again compared Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Adolf Hitler: "Just as Hitler was stopped by the alliance of humanity 70 years ago, Netanyahu and his murder network must be stopped by the alliance of humanity."

Erdoğan hailed Palestinians` "legitimate right of resistance" and called for Palestine to be recognised as an independent state.

Erdoğan has in the past described the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas as a "liberation organisation" and his government has close ties with the militant group that invaded Israel on October 7, killing 1,200 people and taking 250 hostages.
