WASHINGTON, Oct 2 (Bernama-MAP) -- The United States appreciates the crucial voice of Morocco’s King Mohammed VI in advancing a more peaceful and secure Middle East region.
The US State Department spokesperson said this in a statement issued following Tuesday's meeting in Washington between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.
Blinken highlighted "Morocco’s leadership in responding to humanitarian needs in Gaza, supporting stabilisation in the West Bank, and contributing to the revitalisation of the Palestinian Authority”, said Agence Marocaine de Presse (MAP), quoting the statement.
The head of US diplomacy also praised “Morocco's ongoing efforts to end the political stalemate in Libya, and address instability in the Sahel”, the statement said.
On the Western Sahara territorial dispute, the US continues to view Morocco's Autonomy Proposal as serious, credible, and realistic, the statement said.
Both parties also expressed their support for the personal envoy of the UN secretary-general, Staffan de Mistura, in leading the political process regarding Sahara, under the auspices of the United Nations, to reach a lasting political solution without further delay.
