KAZAN (Russia) Oct 23 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday arrived in the Russian city of Kazan to attend the 16th BRICS summit.
Erdogan is accompanied by his wife Emine Erdogan, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and other senior officials.
He was welcomed by local high-level officials and the Turkish Ambassador to Moscow Tanju Bilgic.
The three-day summit continues till Thursday. The bloc includes longtime members Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, along with recent additions Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Erdogan earlier said Turkiye “sincerely” wants to improve its cooperation with the BRICS group.
BRICS was established to promote economic cooperation, political coordination, and cultural exchange among the member countries.
The group aims to influence global economic governance and foster mutual development.
Formed in 2009, BRICS seeks to enhance collaboration in areas such as trade, investment, and infrastructure, and to reform international financial institutions to better represent the interests of emerging economies.
