JAKARTA, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- Indonesia and Thailand have initiated plans to establish an ASEAN Attorneys General (AG) body under the ASEAN Secretariat, aimed at addressing key legal issues among member states.
This announcement followed a meeting between the AG’s Offices of both countries during the 14th China-ASEAN Prosecutors General Conference held in Singapore from October 28 to 30.
“We discussed the importance of creating a formal body to address issues related to the work of AGs in ASEAN member states,” said Indonesia’s Deputy AG for Civil and Administrative Affairs, R. Narendra Jatna, in a statement Wednesday.
He also held bilateral meetings with the AGs of Singapore and Vietnam, both of whom expressed their desire to enhance cooperation through a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
“Given the significance of our position as ASEAN members, we are collectively committed to upholding the law and combating crime in this regional context,” he added.
The 14th China-ASEAN Prosecutors General Conference aims to strengthen cooperation in law enforcement and crime prevention among countries in the ASEAN region and China.
